Britney has asked her father to become her conservator. This is 13 years after she took control of her finances and her life.
On Monday, the star’s new lawyer filed a petition to the court, one month after Spears broke public silence about the arrangement. She called it “abusive”
Mathew S. Rosengart, in court papers, described the conservatorship to be a “Kafkaesque nightmare”.
Jason Rubin, an accountant, was asked to become conservator of Spears’ estate.
The estate had cash assets of $2.7million (PS1.95 million), and non-cash assets greater than $57million (PS41 million).
Rubin’s website states that he has extensive experience with complex trust portfolios as well as cases involving financial exploitation.
Jamie Spears’ replacement is expected to be the beginning of a larger strategy to evaluate the validity of the conservatorship.
This arrangement was made when Britney’s father raised concerns about Britney’s mental state and petitioned the court to have legal control over her life.
After her emotional testimony in court last month, where she claimed she was drugged and forced to perform against all her will, public support has increased for the star.
She claimed she wanted her father to be removed from his position, claiming that he “works me so much” and had threatened her with “punishment” if she didn’t follow his orders.
In a later Instagram post, she said she would not perform again while her father retained control of her career. My dad is going to be dictating what I wear, think, and do.
Jamie Spears has denied all allegations of abuse and expressed concern about his daughter’s well-being.
